What is the concept behind your last collection?  What were your inspirations for this collection?

The collection 21 was all about young ambitious people. When you’re young  – you are fearless and truly free. You only start to investigate life and  it  seems to you so brand new and inspiring. And  only when you grow up  you recognize this period as the  most prescious period in your live. All the bright pure blocking colours in collection are parrallelled to young maximalism. The styling of collection with socks with suspenders (braces) , boy’s caps and boy’s haircuts was to show  tomboys. The visual colour and line inspiraion comes from bauhaus school. 

What has been the response to your latest collection?

As far as I know, everybody loved prints, shoes  and haircuts.

What inspires you?

I get inspiration of many things, but mostly I’m inspired with ideas that touch my emotions, that come across my real life . For instance, with the Fall 2012 collection I devoted to my little cat.

Who are your fashion idols?

None in particular.

What are your goals for your brand this year? What are your long term goals for your brand?

I want my country to be proud of BEVZA! WE will do a really big brand. For the next year we’ve planned to make a fashion show out of Ukraine and to join few showrooms in Paris and Milano, also It will be the start of work with Japan and lots of others thing to do)

What have been the highlights so far of your career? What have been the biggest obstacles?

I think three years ago when I was invited to take part in fashion show in London. It was in terms of London Fashion Week (A-la mode catwalk for young designes).

What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I prefer to devote my spare time to my friends, or take couple of hours for rest just playing piano at home.

Favourite place in the world?

I love my Kiev, I’ve travelled a lot, but still, it’s Paris. This city breathes with beauty.

Where do you work? 

Oh, I always have notebooks with me , because inspiration usually comes sponteniously. But mainly I work in the studio. I prefer to do collections in silence. With my own thougths.

What are your thoughts on Ukrainian fashion?

Because of the cultural gap in terms of former USSR, Ukrainian Fashion just starting to grow. But I am sure that it has future. There are a lot of talented people in Ukraine. 

What advice would you give to designers just starting out?

First of all, a young designer should understand the field (slyle) in whicjh he will for in. I mean, It’s very necessary to understand the DNA of a brand. The second – is always to listen to his/her own aesthetic thoughts. And the third – is to understand that fashion business is not all about art. You have to be ready to work hard. To work in terms.

Why did you go into the business of fashion?

It was a child dream. I always wanted to create clothes.

If I wasn’t a fashion designer I would be…. ?

I would be an actress

Unfortunately, due to other obligations, I wasn’t able to make it to most of the press days that I usually attend in the spring, however I was at least able to check out what was going on at Pop PR’s press day.

First off, it was great to get a close up look at Nova Chu’s A/W14 collection, which I think is a perfect combination of their first collection and their S/S13 collection. The mix of fabrics and the colours really made their A/W14 collection pop! (no pun intended). I was also introduced to Emmanuel Katsaros, an accessory’s designer who makes amazing handbags. The leather was some of the finest I’ve seen and the designs, although simple were stylish and eyecatching. I coveted this one handbag!

The Designer Lookbook.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!

When The Designer Lookbook launched a year ago there were only 6 designers on the website, one for each category. Since the launch, The Designer Lookbook has grown from those 6 designers to 36 and there are so many more on the way.

When I first came up with the concept for The Designer Lookbook, I simply knew that I wanted to provide something different for emerging and independent designers. Essentially, I wanted to create a platform where emerging and independent designers could have a space where their brand would be seen and remembered.

As the founder of The Designer Lookbook, this last year has been such a learning curve for me. As a former corporate lawyer, I had a different perspective and exposure to the fashion industry. Over this past year, as The Designer Lookbook grew, I also grew alongside it and my knowledge of not only the fashion industry but also of myself expanded.

EXPERIENCES, EXPERIENCES! 

Over the past year, I’ve has so many great experiences! From the bi-annual trips to Paris and Milan and of course seeing the amazing collections here in London to meeting some of the most well respected members of the fashion industry and having them report positively about The Designer Lookbook. I’m looking forward to another year of travel, new collaborations, and discovering and introducing you to new designers.

WHAT’S NEXT? 

So then what’s next for The Designer Lookbook? Growth, growth and more growth. I want The Designer Lookbook to grow from strength to strength and I want to expand the reach of The Designer Lookbook. I want to do more consulting work for designers and help them get their businesses off the ground and help them gain more exposure, not only to the general consumer but also to the industry.

Daniella Georgiou, is a Cypriot designer, who creates amazing leather accessories. Daniella Georgiou completed her Foundation Course at Bournemouth Arts Institute and then went on to study Product Design for the Fashion Industries, at the exclusive Cordwainers at the London College of Fashion for four years, specializing in leather accessory design.

After training, abroad in New York with Zack Posen, and upon her return to London, with McQueen, Daniella then turned her attention to setting up her own collection. Daniella’s women’s accessories brand caters to the belief that there is a void in the market for high quality products with strong design details at attainable prices. The brand is built around classic styles that transcend seasons, with their innovative design giving the products a point of difference in the segmented market.

What inspires you?

I always find traveling inspires me, seeing and experiencing new cultures, it is so important for me when creating new ideas and concepts. I also find the sea extremely inspiring, I am a water baby born and raised near the sea, so I am very lucky to live on the island of Cyprus where there are more than 9 months of sunshine a year and where I spend most of my time by the sea, where hundreds of small ideas usually evolve.

Who are your fashion idols?

Lady Gaga has pushed the boundaries of fashion too extremes and I admire her greatly for that. She has a unique vision of how to style herself and i think she challenges all viewers. Fashion is all about taking risks, exploring new horizons and feeling confident with what you are wearing.

I also have followed and admire Bill Cunningham’s street photography I admire him greatly and I believe he says it best  “Fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life. I dont think you could do away with it, it would be like doing away with civilization.”

Favourite place in the world?

Manhattan, New York City after having lived there i believe there is no better place. With its mix of cultures and buzzing energy it’s a city I will always go back to time and time again to discover new places and sources of inspiration.

Where do you work? 

I work in a studio which also works as a showroom for all my products. The studio is surrounded by glass windows looking out to a beautiful garden, it is a great working environment and is near the factory which I tend to visit on a hourly basis during the day so it works out very conveniently.

What advice would you give to designers just starting out?

To know what you want and to make sure it comes across in your products. To have confidence and to believe in what you are selling, you have to become your own customer in order to create things you yourself would want to buy. Constantly look for streams of inspirations and always note them down they may not be useful now but later on they may become your central concept. Also to get as much work experience as you possibly can. Working with respected fashion brands has allowed me to become more knowledgable and experienced within the fashion industry. It allowed me to work on the process from design to completed product, as well as the marketing and promotion of the collections. I believe fashion creates a parallel world much more imaginative and fulfilling than anything I have ever experienced, so regardless of the hard work to get there it is worth it.

Why did you go into the business of fashion?

I was raised in my family’s clothing factory so I spent hours getting lost amongst the fabrics and threads, and I guess most of the conversations I grew up with revolved around fashion and products.  However it was never suggested I go into that area of the business, it came about very naturally. AIthough I always loved design, I loved detail so I decided to work on a smaller scale than clothing and I decide to specialize in accessories.

If I wasn’t a fashion designer I would be…. ?

I would have gone into a career based around gastronomy science of food. I love eating, creating new recipes and experimenting with ingredients, I still do it in my free time I find it so relaxing although i guarantee if I chose it as a career it would not be so relaxing.

If you’re a professional woman and haven’t heard of Andrea Paul then you should visit her site. Andrea Paul is a former corporate attorney who left her firm to launch a new independent womenswear fashion label that focuses on designing high quality feminine dresses for professional women.  Using fabrics like silk, wool and lace, Andrea Paul’s dresses can translate easily from a day in the office to a night at the theater.

Manifattura Donna and Tammam, were the other brands showcasing alongside Andrea Paul. Both are ethical fashion brands that focus on sustainability and style and also provide professional women with fashionable options for their wardrobe.

It is clear that today’s professional woman looks for more versatility in their workwear, and I think the classic and fashionable styles of Andrea Paul, Manifattura Donna and Tammam give women exactly what they are looking for.

The Designer Lookbook

Ugh – pirates don’t even talk like that you know! I was a deck hand for two years and we never shivered anything. There wasn’t even a parrot on board – the first mate was terrified of the things. Attacked by canaries as a child I believe.

The love of rum and gold was real though. One time we discovered a tavern serving golden rum — that was a glorious day. From what I remember, anyway. 

But now I’m back on terra firma booty seems a lot harder to come by and it’s a lot more difficult to make a getaway without a crew, a handful of cutlasses and a boat stuffed with canon. So be a dear and hand over a few quid for my treasure chest, would you?

How would you like the get rich quick?

That got your attention, eh? Well by “rich” I actually mean “not unravelled by me as you sleep”.

Right, so I have a whole platoon of brothers who need to lie low for a while. Just some, er, misunderstandings with the authorities over a little light espionage. They need drawer space and a £6 allowance to get them set up in their new identity.

In return you get sock drawer bodyguards to keep your cottons on the straight and narrow. Oh, and I absolutely promise not to come round and unravel you in the night.

The objective of this research project is to explore as many large laundry colliders as possible, collating data which will allow us to broaden our understanding of the fabrics of the universe.

The main focus of our study is The Soapy Way, including seasonal changes in spin orbits and the sampling of quantum fluff.

This pioneering and research intensive proposal will require a funding sum of £6 per large laundry collider. With enough Brian Soxes on enough spin cycles we can solve the mysteries of the laundry hamper.

Just when you think you know what to expect, Carlotta switches it up and takes you by surprise, and this season was no different. For her AW13 collection Carlotta presented a very ethereal collection, with sheer skirts and dresses. She also stayed with a more monochrome palate consisting of simply black and white. This was a collection of contrasts; between the flowing (soft pleated nets) and semi-rigid (faux leather) and the transparent (fine nets) and the opaque (jersey and wool). Furthermore, the linear 2D cuts of the garments also gave a textural contrast to the collection.

Overall the collection was sophisticated and elegant yet contemporary, while never losing its femininity. As always a collection that impressed.
